1) Data we collect
We collect the minimum amount of information needed to power ReadImple. Depending on how you interact with the app we may process: (a) account data such as email, display name and saved preferences (including saved books and genres); (b) usage and diagnostic data like pages viewed, book rows tapped and error logs; (c) device data (browser, locale, approximate region derived from IP) to keep the service secure; (d) content you submit (search terms, scanned ISBNs, saved notes).
Vendor cart interactions are stored locally so that you can reopen outbound links quickly. We do not store full purchase histories from third-party stores.
2) Data sources & third parties
Book metadata is sourced from a combination of public book catalogues and user-provided scans. These are free or low-cost, open or publicly documented sources; ReadImple does not charge publishers or authors to appear in shelves.
When you request AI summaries, required text is sent to our AI provider solely to fulfil that request. Our current provider (OpenAI) states that API data is not used to train or improve its models. Vendor links simply redirect you to the vendor; ReadImple is not a merchant and does not receive payment details.
3) How we use data
To operate the core features (genre shelves, bag, AI insights), personalise recommendations, troubleshoot performance, combat abuse, comply with legal obligations and respond to your requests. We never sell your personal information.
We do not share identifiable reading history or saved-book lists with publishers or vendors for advertising or ranking. Aggregated, de-identified statistics (for example, “X% of users saved at least one nonfiction title this month”) may be used to understand and improve the product.
4) Legal bases
Where required (e.g., GDPR regions) we process data under one or more legal bases: consent (when you opt in), performance of a contract (providing the service you requested), legitimate interests (protecting, improving and measuring the product) and compliance with law.
5) Cookies, cache & local storage
We use cookies/localStorage to remember genres, keep cached rows, maintain cart selections and store session tokens. You can clear these in your browser; doing so may reset personalised shelves or require a new login. Server-side caching (e.g., cached bestseller responses) is short-lived and designed only to improve load speed.
7) Retention & security
We retain data for as long as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes or meet legal requirements. Usage logs are typically retained for less than 30 days; account data persists until you delete your account. We use encryption in transit, access controls and server-side secret storage to protect data, but no system is 100% secure.
8) Your rights
You can request access, correction or deletion of your data, object to certain processing, withdraw consent or export data you provided. Email aireadimple@gmail.com with your request and enough information to verify you own the account. We will respond within 30 days where legally required.
9) Children
ReadImple is not directed to children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your region). If you believe we collected data from a child, contact us so we can delete it.
10) Updates & contact
We may update this policy when features change or privacy laws evolve. The “last updated” date will reflect the latest revision, and we will provide additional notice for material changes. Questions? Email aireadimple@gmail.com.
