1) Data we collect

We aim to minimize personal data collection. Depending on how you use ReadImple, we may process:

  • Usage data: basic interactions with the app (e.g., pages visited, features used), timestamps, and approximate location inferred from IP for security and abuse prevention.
  • Device & technical data: browser type, device model, OS version, language, referrer, and crash reports to improve reliability.
  • Content you provide: optional inputs such as search terms, scanned book barcodes, notes, feedback, or contact messages.
  • Account data (if/when accounts are offered): display name, email, and settings. Demo mode does not require sign‑up.

Sensitive credentials (e.g., API keys) are stored server‑side and are never exposed to the browser.

2) How we use data

  • To operate core features (e.g., barcode scanning, book search, summaries).
  • To secure the service, prevent fraud/abuse, and detect outages.
  • To understand feature performance and improve UX.
  • To communicate with you when you contact us (support, privacy requests).
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

3) Legal bases

Where applicable (e.g., GDPR regions), we rely on one or more of: (a) consent, (b) performance of a contract, (c) legitimate interests such as improving and securing the service, and (d) compliance with legal obligations.

4) Cookies & local storage

We may use cookies, localStorage, or similar technologies to remember preferences, reduce repeated API calls, or keep you signed in (if accounts are enabled). You can control cookies via your browser settings; disabling them may affect functionality.

5) Analytics & logs

We may use privacy‑respecting analytics and server logs to understand aggregate usage and diagnose issues. Log data can include IP address, timestamps, pages viewed, and user agent. We do not build marketing profiles from this data.

6) AI processing

Some features (e.g., generating book summaries) may send necessary text to AI providers to fulfill your request. We limit inputs to what is needed, apply caching where appropriate, and avoid sending data that identifies you unless required to deliver the feature you choose.

7) How we share information

We do not sell your data. We may share information with service providers that help us run ReadImple (e.g., cloud hosting, content delivery, analytics, AI, and book data sources). These providers are bound by contracts to process data only on our instructions and for the purposes described here.

8) Data retention

We retain data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above, to comply with legal obligations, or to resolve disputes. Where feasible, we prefer aggregate or de‑identified data.

9) Security

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect data (e.g., access controls, encryption in transit, secrets kept server‑side). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we continuously work to improve safeguards.

10) International transfers

Our infrastructure and providers may be located in multiple countries. By using ReadImple, you acknowledge that your information may be processed in jurisdictions with different data protection laws than your home country. We take steps to ensure appropriate protections are in place.

11) Your rights & choices

  • Access, correction, or deletion of your data.
  • Objection or restriction of certain processing (where applicable).
  • Portability of data you provided (where applicable).
  • Withdrawal of consent at any time (this doesn’t affect prior processing).

To make a request, email privacy@readimple.com with your request and a way to verify your identity.

12) Children’s privacy

ReadImple is not directed to children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your region). If you believe we’ve collected information from a child, contact us and we’ll take appropriate steps to remove it.

13) Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect improvements or legal requirements. We’ll revise the date below and, when significant changes occur, provide additional notice.
